I researched to find the very best Orthopedic surgeon in Baton Rouge. I was scheduled for my first total knee replacement in October of 2021. In preparation I had to have a pre-operation visit with a physical therapist. In choosing a PT the nurse told me that she would find someone close to my home. I told her that I didn’t mind traveling to go to a PT. I wanted her to send me to the best physical therapist available, because I wanted to have my second total knee replacement 8 weeks after the first. The nurse sent me to Victoria and Derek at Impact Physical Therapy in Baton Rouge.
In the pre-op appointment, Victoria patiently answered all my questions and helped me begin to manage my expectations for what my road to recovery would entail. She explained what I could expect in physical therapy and encouraged me that she could get me to where I wanted to be as quickly as possible if I was willing to work hard.
I found it interesting that Victoria and Derek had only recently founded the practice. But it soon became evident that they had substantial experience in the Baton Rouge physical therapy community and they each brought a wealth of knowledge and excellent reputations into their new practice. It became obvious through my Impact experience why the doctor’s office had sent me to Impact when I asked for the best.
I started my first session at Impact 5 days after my first knee replacement. It was a whole new experience, but Victoria was always there patiently encouraging me and at times telling me not to rush things and just let my body heal at its own pace. I went to Impact twice a week for 8 weeks. During this time, we were not only helping the right knee recover, but we were strengthening the left knee to prepare it for replacement. This allowed for a faster recovery after the second surgery which I had in December of 2021. I continued with Impact after my second knee replacement.
It was fascinating to see how Victoria would change little things about therapy as we progressed through the sessions. I typically scheduled 7:00 AM and could always count on Victoria’s smile and encouraging words even at that early hour. I did a lot of research on the exercises that we did and asked a lot of questions about the therapy. Victoria always patiently answered the questions to the depth that I needed. And she made it a point to get to know me as a person. She soon learned that I was a numbers guy and I always wanted to know my flexion and extension numbers! I was in a competition with myself to push to get better!
Victoria sent me home with “homework” exercises to do, which I did ... most of the time. But when I skipped, I could tell because my numbers would not progress as rapidly. She noticed as well, but she was nice about it! In the end I was able to attain flexion numbers that were close to what the doctor had me at when I was still in surgery after the new knees were replaced. I ended up 20-25 points higher in flexion compared to the national average. This is because of the therapy and encouragement I received from Victoria at Impact.
I was impressed with Impact. The staff was friendly. I never felt rushed. The staff worked well together as a team. The facilities were nice and always clean. The communication was great. I would always get a reminder the day before my next appointment. There was good communication between Victoria and my doctor. I was able to text at any time to ask questions. The level of professionalism and the quality of treatment was excellent.
I would highly recommend Impact Physical Therapy to anyone. If you want to recover and get back to normal life as quickly as possible, Victoria can do what needs to be done. If you listen and do your part even when it is a little uncomfortable, Victoria will guide you to full recovery.
I am sending this letter to express my gratitude of the successful treatment and results of the physical therapy received by Impact Physical Therapy during the previous 8 weeks. I understood my lower back challenges were not going away on their own. It was extremely important to me that explanations and expectations were issued along the way so that I can buy into the process while realizing the progress. The communication and engagement regarding my challenges was outstanding.
Currently, for 3 straight weeks, I am pain free and now able to:
A. Attain a consistent, interrupted good night's sleep
B. Return to a heavy workload of air travel and overnighting
C. Play golf without pain or regret
I am delighted with the human treatment, communication, information, and courtesy given by Dr. Victoria and the entire staff of Impact Physical Therapy.
Impact Physical Therapy was recommended to me by Audubon Home Health after my knee replacement surgery. So glad I made that phone call.
The owners are Derek Laurent and Victoria Zaunbrecher, board-certified specialists in orthopedic physical therapy. By utilizing Impact PT, you receive the specialized care from both of them in addition to their wonderful, friendly, and capable staff. They are also up-to-date on all new techniques and equipment.
What I found remarkable and unique was the atmosphere (where I was pushed to my limits) was like being in a gym exercising with friends. Each client's needs are different and Impact PT adjusts their treatment as needed. They have very qualified physical therapy techs working with them and you will feel as comfortable with them as you do with Victoria or Derek.
I will be having another knee replacement in a couple of years and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else for therapy. I know Impact PT will give me excellent results!
